The motorcyclist who died in a crash Tuesday at 4:25 p.m. on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike has been identified as Kory A. Stokes, 39, of Foster Township, Luzerne County.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said he was pronounced dead about an hour after the crash in the emergency department of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township.
The coroner said the cause of death is multiple traumatic injuries. The manner of death has been ruled accident.
Meanwhile, state police at the Pocono barracks, who investigated the crash, said the crash occurred in the area of mile marker 63.1 in North Whitehall Township.
They said the motorcyclist, who was unidentified by police, was operating a 2016 Harley Davidson northbound at a speed greater than 70 mph when a phantom vehicle traveling in the right lane made a lane change to the left. They said the cyclist moved to the right lane of travel, lost control of the Harley, crossed the right fog line and struck a 2025 Volvo that was stationary, having been disabled and parked on the right shoulder of the turnpike. Police said the cyclist and cycle came to rest in the northbound right and left travel lanes, respectively.
Both the cycle and the Volvo were towed from the scene, police said.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from the Lehighton, Northern Valley and Lehigh Valley MedEvac ambulances and the North Whitehall Township Fire Department.
