Franklin Township, Tamaqua earn victories

Franklin Township extended its winning streak to five games, while Tamaqua snapped a four-game skid to headline Wednesday’s local baseball action.

Brock Atwood’s single, and a fielding error produced the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning as Franklin Township earned its fifth straight victory, 7-5 over Forks Township.

Franklin Township took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on singles by Atwood, Luke Haydt and Logan Bellis.

Atwood and Haydt both had two hits, and Bellis knocked in two runs.

Jaxton Gares went 3-for-3 for Forks Township, which committed seven errors.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl jumped out to an early lead and downed Northern Lehigh, 6-2.

Pen Argyl plated three runs in the first and added two more in the fourth.

Jayden Weaver doubled and drove in a run, while Drew Mohrey tripled as part of Northern Lehigh’s six-hit attack. Ryan Gall added an RBI.

Northern Lehigh stole six bases, with Weaver, Avery Kabrick, Cameron Chruscial, Hayden Lilly, Pablo Rivera and Beckett Fox each swiping one.

Palmerton-Lower Macungie

Lower Macungie sprinted to an early lead and went on to a 9-5 victory over Palmerton.

Palmerton got on the board with a pair of runs in the first on Lukas Rivera’s single and Robbie George’s double.

Lower Macungie scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take control.

Rivera went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, George was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Colton Becker added two hits for Palmerton.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Aiden Smith went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Tamaqua to a 13-5 victory over Blue Mountain, which dropped its fifth straight.

Smith had a two-run double in a six-run fifth inning that gave Tamaqua a 9-4 lead. He also scattered nine hits and struck out four over five innings to earn the victory.

Jayden Rex and Gavin Edmonds both had two hits, and Ryder Holmberg hit a solo homer for Tamaqua, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

SECTION 6 LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL

Carbon-Minersville

Minersville erupted for five runs in the first inning, and went on to defeat Carbon Majors 9-1 on to capture the Section 6 Little League Softball championship.

Mallory H delivered a two-run single, and Finley F added an RBI single during the opening-inning rally. Emalyn D also forced home a run after being hit by a pitch, while Addison B drove in another with a groundout.

Minersville added two more runs in the second before tacking on a pair in the fourth to finish the scoring.

Carlee Confer drove in Carbon’s lone run and finished 1-for-2 at the plate. McKenna Gildner also singled for Carbon, which managed two hits.

Payton W earned the win, striking out four over two hitless innings.
