Lehighton Borough Council

Lehighton Borough Council took the following action recently:

• Agreed to spend $14,540 for personal gear for the fire department.

• Agreed to advertise for the Light & Power vacancy.

• Approved a request from the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, which along with Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 will cohost the ‘Small Town, Big Story’ America250 Celebration Parade on Sept. 26, to have a beer garden placed under the pavilion at the Grove

• Permitted Keystone Novelties Distributors LLC to erect annual temporary fireworks sales tent.

• Tabled the advertisement of an ordinance setting the 2026 electric rates.

• Tabled the Light & Power Cintas contract.

• On a 4-2 vote, agreed to have the assistant borough secretary attend the 2026 Pennsylvania Municipal Electric Association Conference. Council members Joe Flickinger, Grant Hunsicker, Becky Worthy, and Dave Arndt were in favor. Councilman Steve Hawk and council President Dave Zimmerman were opposed.

• Adopted a resolution for the opioid settlement grant for Lehighton Police Night Out, to be held from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 8 at Baer Memorial Park.

• Adopted a resolution to designate the borough treasurer as the chief administrative office of the pension plan.

• Agreed to hire additional pool lifeguards and employees.
