Monroe commissioners hold on street work
Work on Park Street in East Stroudsburg is off the table, at least for now.
The Monroe County commissioners approved revising the county’s Federal Fiscal Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant program application by removing Park Street from the application.
Jennifer Petersen, the executive director of the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Monroe, explained during the commissioners’ recent meeting that CDBG requested that the county remove the street from the application, because a survey needs to be done of the street in order to make it eligible for funding.
“DCED (Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development) is not saying we can’t do Park Street. We just can’t complete the survey in time to complete the 2025 application,” Petersen said. “So we’re going to remove Park Street, and we can look at it at another time.”
Petersen said the matter was discussed at a public hearing in East Stroudsburg, and there were no comments. The matter then needed to be brought to the commissioners’ meeting for a public hearing before a vote is taken on it. If it is approved, then the application can be submitted.
Commissioner John Christy, chairman, said, “By taking out Park Street, is the dollars earmarked for Park Street going somewhere else or will there just be an addendum for the next round?”
“The project includes Walnut, West Broad and East Park Street,” Petersen said. “So just the two streets alone are more money than was allocated in the project, so the borough still has to put in a portion in order to complete even without Park Street.”
