2 wanted men in custody, drugs seized

Two men were picked up on warrants as Lansford police and Carbon County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant related to drug trafficking at a borough residence Wednesday, the borough’s officer in charge said.

The Carbon County Drug Task Force received information that drugs were being sold from 249 E. Abbott St., said Lansford Sgt. Shawn Nunemacher on Thursday.

Arrested on warrants were Ernesto Gonzalez, 34, of Lansford, and Jermaine Gonzalez, 33, he said. Jermaine Gonzalez was wanted by the sheriff’s department on a bench warrant for a parole violation. Ernesto Gonzalez had charges of flight to avoid apprehension and evading arrest from May 25 filed in District Judge Beth Dodson’s office last week.

Officers seized numerous controlled substances, including methamphetamine, marijuana and the prescription drugs Xanax and Adderall, as well as drug paraphernalia from the home, Nunemacher said.

He said he expects additional arrests for illegal drug activity related to the search warrant on the home.

Nunemacher credited the success of the operation to a close working relationship with the county sheriff’s office and the open exchange of information with the county drug task force.
