Free kids’ meals

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network on Route 209 in Sciota is offering Free Summer Meals for Kids Program.

The program begins Thursday and runs through Aug. 13 from 8-11 a.m. every Thursday.

Families will receive five days of shelf-stable breakfasts and lunches for each child up to age 18.

Young people over 18 who are enrolled in school programs for students with disabilities are also eligible, according to PVEN.

There are no residency or income requirements; all the PVEN needs is the number of children in need of the food.

Meal, meeting

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its next Missions dinner at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

• The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Market vouchers

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides $25 in vouchers to eligible seniors, who can redeem them at farmers markets throughout the county.

The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging is administering the program, which is now underway. The vouchers must be picked up in person. For more details, call 570-420-3735.

OTOH event

Operation: Touch of Home will be at Vet Village for Pocono Race Weekend, Friday through Sunday.

Barn dance set

Quiet Valley will hold a barn dance on Friday.

Opening day is June 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Folks are invited to “Explore the farm and enjoy a full day of hands-on experiences, historic tours, and seasonal activities for all ages.”

Effort UMC events

• The Supplemental Food Resource Center food pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

• At 4 p.m. a family-friendly Christian-based movie will be shown in Wesley Hall.

• The Eldred Township Community Center Food Pantry in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

• The next Eldred Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. June 17.

Stamps for helping

Since 1942, Philately’s Volunteer Service Committee has been collecting Stamps for the Wounded. Information can be obtained about the program by emailing info@stampsforthewounded.org or contacting yours truly, someone who is ever so grateful for veterans of all generations, at her email address. It is an awesome program.

Graduate Sunday

St. Matthew’s ECC, Kunkletown, will celebrate Graduate Sunday this weekend with a service in the Grove.

The church body will be setting up for its June 21 Strawberry Festival & Car Show on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20.

Bereavement help

Library program

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is accepting registration for its summer program for children from June 15 through June 30.

The theme for this summer’s reading program is Dino-Mite 2026 Reading Adventure.

The Adult Art Studio will be held at 10:30 a.m. every Friday in July except for July 3.

The Pleasant Valley Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. June 18.

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Marshall’s Creek has announced upcoming sales.

The June 18 sale is a Thrifty Thursday sale of 30% off, though some exclusions apply.

The June 19 through June 21 Fathers’ Day sale is 30% off tools and hardware.

Farmers market

The next farmers market at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 20.

WE Republicans

The next regular meeting of the West End Republican Club is set for 6:30 p.m. June 23 at the Chestnuthill Star Diner on Route 209 in Brodheadsville.

Day camp ahead

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers summer day camps.

Campers should choose one week. The camps are:

• Get in Touch with Nature for ages 7-10 — June 22-26, July 6-10 or Aug. 3-7.

• Adventure Camp for ages 11-13 — July 6-10, Aug. 3-7 or Aug. 17-21.

Camps are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early care and late pickup available for an additional fee.

Bugfest 2026

On July 18 the annual Bug Fest event at Kettle Creek Environmental Center will be held. The family-friendly event is co-hosted by Kettle Creek and Monroe County 4H Insects Are Us.

A passport to Bug Fest will guide folks to stations such as the insect zoo, build-a-bug craft, free face painting, make your own antennas, outdoor insect safari, live butterfly tent and many others.

At the end of the session, participants can turn in their stamped passports to receive a prize.

Volunteers from the Monroe County Bee Keepers Association, Master Gardeners, Penn State Extension and others will be on hand at the interactive stations.

Participants at the afternoon session can enjoy the release of the monarch and painted lady butterflies at the end of the day.

There is a cost for children ages 3-12 years. Anyone under 3 years or above 12 years of age, including parents, may attend for free. Preregister for either the morning session from 9:30 a.m. to noon or the afternoon session from 12:30-3 p.m. at mcconservation.org.

Preregistration is required, and space is limited.
