Man charged with homicide in wrong-way crash

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan and Upper Macungie Township Police Chief Michael Sitoski announced that a man has been charged with driving under the influence and related counts in a fatal crash that killed a Lansford man in February.

Kevin Krum, 62, of Breinigsville, is charged with felony counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle; and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance — 0.16 percent blood-alcohol content or higher, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, careless driving — unintentional death, reckless driving and a summary charge of driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Krum was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Michael Faulkner and released on $100,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. July 20 before Faulkner.

Around 6:15 p.m. Feb. 19, police were called to a wrong-way crash that occurred at Route 100 between Beachwood Street and Wertman Road.

The investigation revealed that a pickup truck driven by Krum was traveling southbound when it crossed the double-yellow line and struck another vehicle head on.

Oneil D. Fletcher, 27, of Lansford, was driving that vehicle. Fletcher died from multiple blunt force trauma due to motor vehicle collision, and his death was ruled accidental by the Lehigh County coroner.

The investigation revealed that Krum had been driving erratically prior to the crash.

Krum’s blood-alcohol content shortly after the crash was 0.195%.

As police were investigating the fatal crash, they were alerted about a hit-and-run crash that occurred just a short time prior.

Krum’s truck damaged a vehicle also traveling on State Route 100 southbound. Krum did not stop for that collision.
