Coaldale Street reopens after resurfacing project

A Coaldale street that provides access to St. Luke’s Hospital - Miners campus was recently resurfaced.

Kline’s Hill, which is Phillips Street, was closed in April for the work. It has since reopened.

The road is the primary access route for vendors, suppliers and more than 500 hospital employees.

The Appalachian Regional Commission provided funding for the project, which included narrowing the roadway to reduce speeds.

A pedestrian walking route will be added.

The borough of Coaldale partnered with the hospital to develop the project. Plans had been underway for a number of years.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance assisted the borough in securing the grants.

Visitors and patients access the hospital via Manila Grove Drive.
