Weissport awards road project for White St.
At Monday’s Weissport Borough Council meeting, the council opened bids for a road project to do repair work on White Street.
The project was broken up into four parts.
The base section is the 300 block of White Street, between Forge and Lime streets.
Alternate section 1 is the 400 block, between Lime and Mill Streets. Alternate section 2 is the 100 block between Park and Forge streets. The fourth section consists of other items such as installed ADA-compliant ramps, any curb replacement, filling cracks, and similar items. The ramps are required, and would cost about $2,000 each. Four ramps would be needed for each block.
According to engineer Mike Muffley from Hanover Engineering, the borough received six bids.
“The lowest bid for the entire project was $211,000. The highest was $456,000,” he said.
Bids were received from Fehlenger Construction Group, M&J Excavating, Kreiger Contruction, Lehigh Asphalt, Barker & Barker Paving and Northeast Site Contractors.
“I’m going to recommend that we award the bid to Fehlenger Construction, the lowest bidder, to do the base bid, alternate 1, and the optional items, for a total bid of $153,483.65,” Muffley advised council.
Weissport Borough Council voted to award the bid to Fehlenger as recommended by Muffley.
The project would begin later this year. No specific date has been set.
Muffley also brought some possible good news to the council.
“We received some information from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management,” Muffley said. “Approximately $600 million has been released from FEMA for the entire country for flood mitigation assistance grants. They put out a list of instructions, and we can submit a letter of interest, which is like a prescreening process.”
The letter of interest would be due by June 19.
Borough council agreed to move forward with the letter of intention to apply for a grant.
