A 31-year-old Barnesville pedestrian died after he was struck by a vehicle in the village of Grier City in Barnesville Sunday evening.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Austin Didgen entered the roadway in the 200 block of Grier Avenue around 6 p.m. and was hit by a northbound vehicle driven by Erick Chavez, 22, of Freeland. Police said the front driver’s side of Chavez’s Honda Civic struck Didgen.

Troopers provided immediate aid to Didgen, who was subsequently transported by Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital in Coaldale. Troopers said they were advised later that Didgen was pronounced deceased.

Police said Chavez was not injured.

The Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop L of Jonestown investigated the crash. Its Forensic Services Unit, Collision and Accident Reconstruction units also assisted with the investigation.

Ryan Township EMS, MedEvac 4 and fire department personnel assisted at the scene.
