Students at Lehighton Elementary Center were given an up-close-and-personal look at police department equipment.
The Lehighton Borough Police Department hosted roughly 130 students on Friday as part of four 30-minute sessions for first-grade classes.
As part of the event, the students were given a front row view of some of the police department’s equipment, borough police Chief Troy Abelovsky posted on the Lehighton Borough Police Department’s Facebook page.
Abelovsky said the students also had an opportunity to ask questions, were provided some handouts, and also received a refreshing freeze pop to enjoy.
Teachers were great sports and dressed in some tactical gear for their students’ amusement, Abelovsky added.
Abelovsky, along with Cpl. Bruce Broyles provided explanations of the gear displayed, allowed the kids to climb in the new and old patrol units and handle some of the displayed tools used by our department officers.
The police department was assisted by the department’s administrative assistant, and a returning retired employee.
