Several people were seriously injured Friday night in a crash in Franklin Township.

The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 209 near the intersection with Wagner Street and involved three cars.

Franklin Township firefighters worked to extricate the injured from the wreckage.

The patients were treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to area trauma centers.

Franklin Township fire police maintained traffic control at the scene, shutting down the roadway.

Franklin Township police are investigating the incident.
