Tamaqua AREA School Board

The Tamaqua Area School Board approved the following actions this month:

• The first reading of three policies related to preemployment drug testing. There were no changes.

• The Schuylkill County Emergency Operations Plan.

• A new vaping prevention and intervention program from Playbl for the middle and high school levels, which is offered free from the county. The prevention portion is new and will be part of the health curriculum.

• The preliminary graduation list, which is subject to change. There are 170 seniors out of 181 set to graduate.

• Agreements with Child and Family Support Services Inc. of Reading for the Student Assistance Program and connections to service providers. Bills totaling $2,134,991.25.

• Section 619 and IDEA-B with the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 for 2025-26.

• The quote from BTL Carpentry and Creations for work on the concession stand at a cost of $24,491.

• A lease agreement renewal with the Schuylkill IU for classroom space for the preschool program for $10,200 for the year.

• Agreements and resolutions with the John E. Morgan Foundation for $45,000 in scholarships for 2025-26.

• Nominated Larry Wittig to the Schuylkill IU and Schuylkill Technology Center Board of Directors for a three-year term.

Superintendent Ray Kinder also pointed out that students will be performing “Love’s Labor Lost in the Courtyard” Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and baccalaureate is set for Sunday.

The last day of school and graduation is May 28, and the next board meeting will be June 16, and committee meetings will be held the same day, Kinder said.

The board also heard a report regarding the district safety report from the Student Services Committee Meeting.
