A 24-year-old Pine Grove man was charged with aggravated assault after police said he strangled a 45-year-old Pine Grove woman into near unconsciousness.

Richard Olt was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and harassment. The magistrate set $50,000 straight cash as bail.

Olt was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, following his arraignment on Saturday on charges relating to an assault which police said the assault took place between 3:30 and 8:23 on the above date at 43 Laurel Street, Pine Grove.
