St. Matthew’s

St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church — North Weissport, 222 Church St., Lehighton, holds worship at 9 a.m. Sundays. Worship is also offered on Facebook (St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church). Pastor Michael A. Frost presides. All are welcome.

Sunday Church School begins at 10:15 a.m. It is for children ages 3 through 8th grade.

Adult Bible study is held Monday afternoons from 1:30-3 p.m.

Lehighton Bible Church

Lehighton Bible Church, 160 Jamestown St., Lehighton, holds Sunday service and Sunday school for the children at 10 a.m.

Weekly initiatives:

Tuesday: 7 p.m., Five Smooth Stones Men’s Bible Study.

Wednesday: 6:30 p.m., Adult Bible Study/Prayer Meeting and Club for the Kids.

Thursday: 9:30 a.m., Ladies Bible Study.

Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, begins at 9:30 a.m. Licensed Lay Minister Kathy Long presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows in Luther Hall.

There will be no Quiet Communion June 6 or July 4.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Cash only sales. Clothing donations will be accepted during store hours. There is a five bag limit. Household goods are not being accepted at this time. Use door 2 to bring clothing inside.

Looking ahead:

• The 2026 13-member Illini4000 Bike Team will visit Lehighton for an overnight stay on Monday. This is the second stop of their cross country trek from New York City to San Francisco raising awareness of the fight against cancer and raising funds for cancer resources and patient support. People are invited to greet them at the church and offer supportive messages.

• Vacation Bible School “Road Trip: On the Go with God” for students ages 3 to grade 6, July 27-31, 6-8 p.m. Free registration by contacting the church office or sign up in narthex after worship. Teen and adult volunteers are welcome to help.

• Faith and Fellowship Ladies Tea Party, 10:30 a.m. June 20 at the church. Special guest will be Jennifer Eckhart with her message “A Stained-Glass Life.” Eckhart and Alicia Klotz will also provide musical entertainment. There is no charge to attend; however, a love offering will be accepted.

St. John’s

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton, will hold a Memorial Day worship service at 9 a.m. outside, weather permitting.

Book club: 6 p.m. on May 26. The group will watch the movie “Remarkably Bright Creatures” in the family room.

Pentecost and Confirmation Sunday: Wear red on May 24 to symbolize the Holy Spirit and the tongues of fire that appeared on the disciples’ heads.

Smith Scholarship: The church is now accepting applications for the Smith Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is for those who will be attending college/trade schools. To apply, write a one-page letter explaining where you plan to attend school, what type of degree you are working toward and how you will use the scholarship money. This is not a one-time scholarship. If you have received scholarship money in the past, you may apply again. Spring clothing drive: Donations of clothing will be accepted in May. Large boxes are in the Narthex. Donations should be spring and summer related.

Attention graduates: If you graduated in December 2025 or will be graduating May-August 2026, contact Anne S. in the church office by emailing stjohns@ptd.net. Include your name, address, name of high school, trade school, college, etc., where you will/have completed your diploma or degree, the type of degree and the plans that you have for the future.

May food pantry: Cereal. Donations can be dropped off in the box in the Narthex.

Ben Salem UCC

Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, will hold worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday. This begins the summer worship schedule.

Homemade shoofly pie sale order pickup will be from 1-2:30 p.m. May 23.

Christ Evangelical

Christ Evangelical Free Church, 2420 Blakeslee Blvd., Dr., West in Lehighton holds worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The church also holds the following ministries during the week.

Vacation Bible School: Starting July 20-24 at 6 p.m. The theme this year is Illumination Station.

MOMCO: Every Monday from 6-8:30 p.m. Moms encouraging Moms in raising the next generation.

Sunday School for children and youth every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (except the first Sunday of the month).

Sister Chix: Support group for widows and divorced women is held the last Sunday of each month at noon. Bring your lunch, dessert and coffee is supplied. Lower parking lot entrance.

Men’s Bible Workshop: First and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Lower parking entrance.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Second Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m. Lower parking lot entrance.

Food Pantry: Takes place the third Saturday of the month from 9-11 a.m.

Resuming in September:

• ESL classes begin Sept. 8. Will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

• Ladies Bible Study will be held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. starting in September. The study is “Following God’s Guidance: A Women of Faith Study.

• AWANA for children and youth begins Sept. 2. It is held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
