Few candidates for Democratic committee positions

The Democratic Party in Carbon County has a shortage of candidates for committeemen and committeewoman positions on the county level.

There is also no one running for a position on the state Democratic Committee.

There is, however, one contested race for a committeeship: the Northern District of Towamensing Township. Candidates are James P. Shafer and Jeff Schnaiter. There is no candidate for the committeewoman post in the district.

On the state level, Carbon Democrats get one position, which is filled on an at-large basis in the 51 election precincts in the county.

On the county level, the party’s bylaws call for one committeeman and one committeewoman to be elected in each of the precincts.

Meanwhile, the party has uncontested candidates in nine other precincts:

East Penn South:Jim Thorpe Fifth District: Robert Boehning and Ciro Lo Pinto.

Mahoning Township New Mahoning District: Terry J. Berger and Mildred Heiser.

Palmerton Middle District: Sarina Berlow.

Palmerton West District:Summit Hill First: Nathan R. Halenar and Tara L. Yuricheck.

Summit Hill Second: Delores McAndrew.

Summit Hill Third: Michael Crampsie and Melissa Crampsie.
