Coaldale taking applications for vacancy
Coaldale Borough Council is down one member.
“Unfortunately, we do have a resignation,” council President Rose Hoban said before she began reading Councilman Jacob Adamitis’s resignation letter at Tuesday’s meeting.
Adamitis, who was not at the meeting, noted that his resignation will be effective on June 8.
“This decision is a result of my relocation outside the borough which will prevent me from continuing to serve the community,” Adamitis wrote.
He noted that serving on council had been an honor.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated colleagues and to contribute to the betterment of our community,” Adamitis said.
He had been elected to a four-year term, which ended on Dec. 31. While he didn’t seek reelection, he was appointed to a vacant seat on council earlier this year.
“With that, we have an open council seat,” Hoban said after reading the letter.
She noted that the borough had received several applications for council when it was down three members earlier this year.
Hoban said that the borough will contact applicants to see if they are still interested in serving.
Council will also accept letters of interest, which are due by noon on June 4.
The goal is to appoint a new member at the June 9 meeting.
In an unrelated matter, Hoban announced that she is establishing hours at borough hall.
“I’ve come to the thought that maybe people would like to just talk to me” about borough-related issues, she said. “I’m going to make myself available one day a week.”
She said she will be at borough hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays.
“Feel free to come in,” she said. “We can sit down and talk. If you have any questions and I don’t have any answers, I sure can find out for you.”
