Penn’s Peak to host Nugent, Old Crow Medicine

Penn’s Peak announced Ted Nugent will return at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

Nugent said he started “beating on my first guitar” around the age of 5.

Strongly influenced by Chuck Berry and Bo Diddly, he knew he wanted to pursue that type of sound and attitude. Early bands paved the way for the Amboy Dukes, and it was a feisty cover of the Dukes’ psychedelic Journey to the Center of the Mind that kicked Young Ted’s career into hyper drive.

He broke out as a solo artist, signing with Epic Records, where the guitarist’s prodigious talent, earshattering volume and over-the-top stage antics quickly earned him the moniker of Motor City Madman.

Cranking out hits like “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Just What the Doctor Ordered,” “Free for All” and the iconic “Stranglehold,” Nugent garnered international acclaim earned a permanent place in rock & roll history as the ultimate guitar-shredding showman, selling more than 40 million albums and performing over 6,900 high-octane live shows.

Nugent has been named Detroit’s Greatest Guitar Player of All Time by readers of MLive.

Penn’s Peak also announces the Old Crow Medicine Show: Union Made Tour with Special Guest Palmyra will appear at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

Old Crow Medicine Show got their start busking on street corners in 1998, from New York state and up through Canada, winning audiences along the way with their boundless energy and spirit. They eventually found themselves in Boone, North Carolina where they caught the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy.

He invited the band to play at his festival, MerleFest, and twenty years since later the band has gone on to receive the honor of being inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry and have won two Grammy Awards: “Best Folk Album” for Remedy (2014) and “Best Long Form Music Video” for Big Easy Express (2013).

Additionally, their classic single, “Wagon Wheel,” received the RIAA’s Double-Platinum certification in 2019 for selling over 2,000,000 copies while the band’s debut album O.C.M.S. has been certified Gold (500,000 copies). The band’s latest Grammy nominated album ‘Jubilee’ (August 2023) released via ATO Records.

Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant and Bar. Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant ticket sales are walk-up only, no phone orders.
