Lehighton Borough Council took the following action on Monday:
• Approved the Lehighton Downtown Initiative’s request to purchase and erect a 7-by-12 Mosaic Mural, at a cost of $4,997, at a location to be determined for America250.
• Agreed to hire a borough mechanic, pending background check, and preemployment screening.
• Agreed to sell the 1995 Ford F-800 Dump Truck in the amount of $6,400.
• Agreed to decommission a 2018 Ford Interceptor and list for public sale. The police department has just received two interceptors that will replace the 2018 as well as the next oldest vehicle in the fleet, the latter of which is expected to come before borough council in the next few months.
• Agreed to hire four additional lifeguards for the 2026 season.
• Adopted a resolution for electronics recycling list.
• Awarded contracts for 2026 bituminous, stone, and aggregate materials.
