St. Matthew’s

St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church — North Weissport, 222 Church St., Lehighton, holds worship at 9 a.m. Sundays. Worship is also offered on Facebook (St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church). Pastor Michael A. Frost presides. All are welcome.

Sunday Church School begins at 10:15 a.m. It is for children ages 3 through 8th grade.

Adult Bible study is held Monday afternoons from 1:30-3 p.m.

Mahoning Township Lions

The Mahoning Township Lions announce its 37th annual Rabies Clinic will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on May 16 in the field on Route 443 at the intersection of Country Club Road in Lehighton.

Lehighton Bible Church, 160 Jamestown St., Lehighton, holds Sunday service and Sunday school for the children at 10 a.m.

Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, begins at 9:30 a.m. Included during this time is Blessing of Mothers and Motherly Mentors. Licensed Lay Minister Kathy Long presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows in Luther Hall.

There will be no Quiet Communion June 6 or July 4.

Sunday Church School classes for students ages 3 through grade 6 plus confirmation classes for those in grades 7-8 at 10:45 a.m. The final classes are May 17 before summer break. The Rite of Confirmation is May 31.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Cash only sales. Clothing donations will be accepted during store hours. There is a five bag limit. Household goods are not being accepted at this time. Use door 2 to bring clothing inside.

Preschool: Trinity’s Jack and Jill Preschool is now accepting registrations for the 2026-27 school year. Any child who is 3, 4 or 5 years old in the fall is eligible to register. Looking ahead:

• The 2026 12-member Illini4000 Bike Team will visit Lehighton for an overnight stay May 25. This is the second stop of their cross country trek from New York City to San Francisco raising awareness of the fight against cancer and raising funds for cancer resources and patient support. People are invited to greet them at the church and offer supportive messages.

• A parade will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, in Lehighton for America’s 250th Anniversary celebration. The search is on for someone to drive their convertible automobile to represent Trinity. Contact the church office during business hours with your information.

• Vacation Bible School “Road Trip: On the Go with God” for students ages 3 to grade 6, July 27-31, 6-8 p.m. Free registration by contacting the church office or sign up in narthex after worship.

BECC

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 222 North St., Lehighton, will host Sunday Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m.

Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. for all ages.

Coffee and snack is held at 10:15 a.m.

• Thursday: Men’s Bible Study, 5 a.m.; Second Blessing Free Clothing Ministry, 6-7:30 p.m.

St. John’s

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton, will hold a worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Mother’s Day breakfast: 9 a.m. on Sunday in Fellowship Hall.

Council meeting: 6:30 p.m. May 11. The meeting is open to all members of St. John’s.

Spring cleaning: The church holds a Spring Cleaning event on May 16, beginning at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided.

Grief support: 6 p.m. May 18.

Book club: 6 p.m. on May 26. The group will watch the movie “Remarkably Bright Creatures” in the family room.

Donut orders: Due May 17 with delivery in June. Final sale until the fall.

Pentecost and Confirmation Sunday: Wear red on May 24 to symbolize the Holy Spirit and the tongues of fire that appeared on the disciples’ heads.

Smith Scholarship: The church is now accepting applications for the Smith Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is for those who will be attending college/trade schools. To apply, write a one-page letter explaining where you plan to attend school, what type of degree you are working towards and how you will use the scholarship money. This is not a one-time scholarship. If you have received scholarship money in the past, you may apply again. A deadline in June will be announced, but you may start sending your information in now. Spring clothing drive: Donations of clothing will be accepted in May. Large boxes are in the Narthex. Donations should be spring and summer related. Donations will be given to the homeless and those in need.

Attention graduates: If you graduated in December 2025 or will be graduating May-August 2026, contact Anne S. in the church office by emailing stjohns@ptd.net. Include your name, address, name of high school, trade school, college, etc., where you will/have completed your diploma or degree, the type of degree and the plans that you have for the future. Graduation Recognition Sunday is July 19.

May food pantry: Cereal. Donations can be dropped off in the box in the Narthex.

Vases needed: The Altar Committee is looking for clean, medium sized vases to send Altar flowers home with the sponsors. If you have vases to donate, please see any Altar Committee member or drop off after church on Sunday.

Dinkey Memorial

Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1742 Dinkey Road, Lehighton, upcoming events:

• The church is having a basket raffle on May 15 from 4-7 p.m. and May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Community Cupboard: Dinkey Memorial has a food cupboard available to those in need who are members of Dinkey Memorial and St. John’s and to residents of East Penn Township. The distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. in Dinkey’s Social Room. For more information, speak with Pastor Tony.

Ben Salem UCC

Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, will hold worship services at 8 and at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday School, 9 a.m. It is held for children from nursery age to post Confirmation class.

Summer worship begins on May 24 with a 9 a.m. worship service.

Christ Evangelical

Christ Evangelical Free Church, 2420 Blakeslee Blvd., Dr., West in Lehighton holds worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday. Sunday School for children and youth is also held every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

A Food Pantry takes place the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.
