For the first time locally, the American Cancer Society hosted a “Cancer Survivors Tea” in the First United Methodist Church, 124 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.

According to organizers, the event gave survivors and family members an opportunity to get together in a social atmosphere and share experiences in battling the disease.

The guest speaker was the Rev. David W. Grant of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, who related his story of surviving cancer.

Survivor Otto Barbush of Weatherly was presented a “Man to Man” pin. Man to Man is a support network for those with prostate cancer and offers education, awareness and emotional support.
