A vocal crowd attended a meeting of the Lansford Borough Council to strongly oppose the idea of establishing a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in the former Kiddie Kloes factory next to Kennedy Park and the Panther Valley Football Stadium.

MinSec, Inc., Media, PA, inquired about a variance which would be needed to establish such a facility at the site.

John Thorne spoke on behalf of a group circulating a petition opposed to the project. Others speaking in opposition to it were David Spence, Rose Mary Cannon, Bob Gaughan, Stephen Redash and Michelle Bartek, the latter saying Lansford doesn’t want “inner city garbage.”

The council approved sending a letter to the real estate agency that made the inquiry about the use of the building, expressing the public’s opposition to establishing the center in the borough.
