Cancer telethon airs this weekend
The 47th annual Northeastern Pa. American Cancer Society Telethon airs Saturday and Sunday live from Penn’s Peak outside Jim Thorpe from noon to midnight both days. The telethon can be seen in Tamaqua and Hazleton on Service Electric Cablevision’s channels 90 and 590; on Blue Ridge Cable on channel 13; in Pottsville on Comcast/Xfinity channel 15; and in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric Cable’s channels 913 and 914.
Both days include remote reports from various spots around the region. Saturday’s remote broadcasts are from the Yuengling Museum and Gift Shop in Pottsville from noon to 3 p.m., the Sleepy Cat Urban Winery in Allentown from 3 to 6 p.m. and numerous locations in Tamaqua from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday’s remotes are all from the Warrior Bar & Grill in Stroudsburg from 2 to 5 p.m.
Last year’s telethon raised just over $263,000 for the American Cancer Society. The telethon began 47 years ago at the Tamaqua Area High School as a community project of the Tamaqua Media Club.
Thirty-seven acts are scheduled to perform live at Penn’s Peak throughout the weekend, and the public is invited to attend in person free of charge. Donations, of course, are welcome. The times of performances are subject to change.
Performers scheduled for Saturday are 12:15 p.m., Saloonatics; 1:15 p.m., Dance with Kim; 1:30 p.m., Cathy Johnston; 1:55 p.m., Jimmy Cole; 2:30 p.m., Ricky & the Ricardos; 3:05 p.m. Cartesian Dance Academy; 3:40 p.m. the Coalcracker Chorus; 3:55 p.m., Lois Mann; 4:25 p.m., The Zenith; 5:25 p.m., Dance Explosion; 5:55 p.m., Susan Featro & Friends; 6:35 p.m., Blue Mountain Community Church Praise Team; 7:15 p.m., Hawk Mountain Highlanders bagpipers; 7:50 p.m., Kathy Rimm; 8:30 p.m., Steel Creek Band; 9:30 p.m., Denny Krell and Cadance Fannock; 9:55 p.m., The Throwbacks; and 11 p.m., Mr. Moon band.
