Lehighton Band to present annual spring concert April 11

The Lehighton Band will present its annual spring concert at 2 p.m. April 11 at the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, located at Sixth and Cypress streets in Lehighton.

The concert is free and open to the public; a freewill offering will be accepted.

This year’s program offers a diverse blend of traditional band repertoire, film music, Broadway favorites and contemporary selections, showcasing the versatility and talent of the ensemble.

The concert will open with a fanfare-style arrangement of the “National Anthem” by Bill Moffit, setting a ceremonial and celebratory tone. The opening march, “The Florentiner” by Julius Fucik, is a lively and elegant concert march known for its strong melodies and vibrant character.

The band will then perform “Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F,” one of the most important works in the wind band repertoire. This four-movement suite draws on English folk songs and features contrasting styles, from the spirited “March” to the lyrical “Song Without Words” and the energetic “Fantasia on the Dargason.”

Audiences will enjoy a touch of cinematic nostalgia with the theme from “Back to the Future,” arranged by Johnnie Vinson, capturing the adventurous spirit of the iconic film score originally composed by Alan Silvestri.

A highlight of the program will be “In a Gentle Rain” by Robert W. Smith, featuring husband and wife soloists Brandon and Eliza Cressley. The expressive and lyrical work showcases the trumpet and tenor saxophone in a warm, flowing duet that evokes a peaceful, reflective atmosphere.

Selections from “The Greatest Showman,” arranged by Johnnie Vinson, will bring the energy of the hit musical film to the stage, featuring memorable songs that celebrate imagination, individuality and showmanship.

The program continues with the spirited “Klaxon March” by Henry Fillmore, a classic American circus-style march known for its playful “car horn” effects and lighthearted character.

“Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons” by Steven Reineke follows, a dramatic and programmatic work inspired by Swiss folklore. The piece paints a vivid musical picture of Mount Pilatus, long associated with legends of dragons and mystery.

Adding a contemporary pop-rock element, the band will perform “Uma Thurman,” originally recorded by Fall Out Boy and arranged for band by Michael Brown. The piece incorporates themes inspired by classic television music, blending modern rhythms with familiar motifs.

Selections from “Les Misérables,” arranged by Johnnie Vinson, will highlight some of the most beloved melodies from the acclaimed Broadway musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg, including powerful and emotional themes that have captivated audiences worldwide.

The theme from “E.T. the Extraterrestrial,” arranged by James Ployhar, will transport listeners with its sense of wonder and adventure, based on John Williams’ iconic film score.

The concert will conclude with “The Washington Post March” by John Philip Sousa, one of the most famous American marches, known for its bright tempo and enduring popularity.

The Lehighton Band invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of engaging and varied musical selections in a welcoming and family-friendly setting. The band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
