Police find vehicle, Nesquehoning teen still missing

Nesquehoning police have announced the vehicle sought in connection to a missing teenager has been located.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Bradley Hess said Wednesday afternoon that the vehicle was recovered and is no longer affiliated with the case; however, there has been no update on the whereabouts of Gianna Kent.

The 17-year-old Nesquehoning girl was reported missing by her father on March 28 after he learned that her stepmother, Elizabeth Kent, had not taken Gianna to school.

Children and Youth contacted Elizabeth, who said they were in Allentown and would return to Nesquehoning; however, she failed to return.

Attempts to reach both of them via cellphone were unsuccessful, and a missing-person report was filed for Gianna.

Police finally reached Elizabeth Kent on March 29 but Gianna was not with her.

She told police that she had taken Gianna to Philadelphia and left her with an unidentified male, but could not pinpoint the location where she dropped her off.

Nesquehoning police, in conjunction with Philadelphia police and the Glenolden Police Departments began coordinating efforts to locate Gianna.

The investigation found that Gianna had Elizabeth’s cellphone, which pinged to several locations throughout Philadelphia.

Elizabeth Kent was arrested and is charged with a third-degree felony for interference with the custody of a child and endangering the welfare of children.
