At a special meeting Tuesday, members of the Joint Operating Committee of the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe hired a new principal.

William J. Mack will become CCTI principal starting June 1, at a salary of $88,000 per the Act 93 agreement, until May 31, 2027.

Mack lives in Barnesville with his wife, Holly, and 4-year old daughter, Laynie.

He attended Penn State Schuylkill and then completed his bachelor’s degree in education at the Penn State Harrisburg Campus in 2008.

Mack earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction at Bloomsburg University in 2012 and his principal’s certification for the Pennsylvania Department of Education through Alvernia University, Reading, in 2024.

He has been teaching for 18 years, the past 16 as a social studies instructor at the North Campus of the Schuylkill Technology Center in Frackville.

“During my time at the Schuylkill Technology Center, I served as SkillsUSA student organization adviser for 15 years, served as a teaching mentor to new faculty members multiple times, and recently was the lead teacher for the north campus, Frackville,” Mack said.

He also does charitable work through the Frackville Elks Lodge No. 1533, serving as lodge secretary for the past eight years.

Mack also served as the state president for the Pennsylvania Elks State Association in 2022-23.

He is currently serving on the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Activities Committee for the Grand Lodge, Chicago.

Thomas Lesisko has been serving as CCTI’s interim principal after Michele Connors left.

She served as principal from July to December 2025, at a salary of $85,000.

Lesisko’s last day will be May 31.
