Carbon County recognizes Vietnam veterans

More than 280 people attended the Vietnam Veterans Day Luncheon at Penn’s Peak on Wednesday.

The event was hosted by Together with Veterans NEPA in conjunction with Carbon County Veterans Affairs.

Carbon County Veterans Affairs director Christine LeClair was the emcee. Remarks were provided by Ethan Zych, a senior at Palmerton High School who will be enlisting in the Air Force upon graduation.

A few other Palmerton students attended to help greet guests and distribute cards.

Panther Valley JROTC provided the color guard.

Commissioner Mike Sofranko spoke, and Rudy Balas, commander of the Vietnam Veteran of Carbon County, opened the commemoration with a prayer.

Vendors included: Scranton Vet Center, Veterans Health Administration, Maple Shade Meadows, Heritage Hill, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Victory for Veterans, Together with Veterans NEPA, and First Commonwealth.
