The Pennsylvania State Police, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, will conduct a statewide enforcement initiative during the month of April on the turnpike.
Police said the effort will target aggressive driving and motorists operating vehicles with suspended registrations due to unpaid turnpike tolls and fees.
As part of this initiative, troopers will enforce multiple provisions of the Motor Vehicle Code, with a focus on drivers with suspended registrations and unsafe driving behaviors.
Police said the enforcement will include violations, such as speeding, careless and reckless driving, following too closely, improper passing, improper turning, traffic control violations, failure to obey traffic control devices, unsafe lane changes, occupant protection violations and driving while operating privilege is suspended (§1543).
The enforcement actions may include traffic citations and fines.
Vehicles operated with suspended registrations may also be subject to towing.
Troopers will utilize license plate recognition technology to assist in identifying violators.
Police said this initiative is intended to improve roadway safety by reducing aggressive driving behaviors and ensuring compliance with tolling requirements.
By holding violators accountable, state police and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission officials said they aim to deter unsafe driving, address unpaid toll violations, and enhance the safety of all motorists traveling on the turnpike.
