March 25, 1987 — Lehighton’s Tawny Artz opens the season in impressive fashion, tossing a no-hitter against Jim Thorpe in a 16-0 victory. Artz strikes out nine and walks just one in her seven innings of work. She also receives plenty of offensive support as the Indians, coached by Joel Christman, explode for seven runs in the second inning and add nine more in the fifth. Cheryl Strohl leads the Tribe at the plate, finishing with a pair of hits — one a double —and two runs. She also collects two RBIs. Karen Fink also contributes a triple and knocks in two runs.
