Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County commissioners conducted the following business at their meeting last week.
• Opened bids for an ADA handicap ramp in Packer Township as part of the Community Development Block Grant. The sole bid was from Stoney Lonesome Excavating of Summit Hill. It was $64,900.
• Approved a one-year agreement with Health Network Laboratories LP of Allentown to provide drug testing services to the Carbon County Adult Probation Office.
• Awarded a CDBG contract for water/sewer improvements on certain streets in Parryville. The winning bid went to Bruce George Paving and Excavating Inc. of Kunkletown at $188,593.89.
• Appointed Marlyn Kissner of Palmerton to fill the seat of Sara Puza on the parks and recreation commission. The term expires Dec. 31, 2027.
• Accepted a resignation letter from Gerry Madden from the Carbon County Open Space Advisory Board, effective March 2.
• Ratified the inclusion of access to Savi, a third-party student loan assistance program, to participants in the Nationwide Retirement Deferred Compensation Plan. The offer delivers targeted solutions for participants with student debt and provides the tools for potential savings through public service loan repayment and forgiveness programs.
• Approved a request for proposals for appraisal services for Robert and Elaine Correll, Carol Zlomsowitch, and Troy and Sherry Johnson for preservation through the county Agricultural Land Preservation Board.
• Approved a renewal of the Hospital Community Showcase agreement between the county Area Agency on Aging and Innovare Medical Media for a 20-second advertisement at St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon campus, on the surgery waiting LCD screen for 12 months starting April 1. The monthly total cost is $220, plus a one-time $200 security deposit.
• Approve the third extension to an agreement with North Penn Legal Services to provide ombudsman services through June 30 at a monthly cost of $3,712.25.
• Approved the Title XIX Medicaid Grant agreement between the Pennsylvania Departments of Human Services and Department of Aging and county Area Agency on Aging for the administration of the Medicaid program. The budgeted amount is $93,036. The contract is in effect until June 30, 2030.
• Approved a concession lease agreement with Lori Knox of Jim Thorpe for the operation of the boat rental concession at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The agreement runs through March 31, 2029. Rent for this concession is $4,628 annually plus $400 a year for electric.
• Approved a proclamation naming March as “Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month.”
• Approved two resolutions honoring Landon Abelovsky of Boy Scout Troop 209, Towamensing, and Ryden Chapman of Boy Scout Troop 008, Parryville, for making the rank of Eagle Scout.
• Ratified a resolution recognizing Marianne Garfield of Summit Hill as the 2026 Shamrock Award recipient.
• Ratified a resolution honoring the Rev. Stanley P. Haupt for dedicating more than 40 years of service to Shepherd House Food Bank.
• Approved a request from the tax claim bureau to relieve Lansford from the 2025 county real estate and debt service taxes for totaling $493.56 for a parcel.
