March 24, 1970 — Palmerton’s Wassil Demchyk becomes the first person to roll a 700 series at the Zinc Bowl (later Haja Lanes). Demchyk, who rolled two other 700 series at the Neighborhood House, posts scores of 212, 275 and 214 to finish with a 701 series. All of his 700 series were rolled as a member of the PBA League, which is reputed to be the oldest organized league in the Palmerton area. Demchyk, who owns a 183 average in his league, began his bowling career as a pin boy at the Neighborhood House.
