Students from the S.S. Palmer School in Palmerton registered a sweep last night in the Eighth Annual Times News-Carbon County Spelling Bee.

The seventh grade champion was Mandi Mendez, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Everett of Palmerton, while winning the eighth grade contest was Trisha Berger, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Berger of Palmerton.

Students from Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and Panther Valley middle schools and St. Joseph (Jim Thorpe), SS. Peter and Paul (Lehighton), St. Michael (Lansford) and St. John Neumann (Palmerton) Catholic schools participated in the event held at the Lehighton Area High School auditorium.
