Local Roundup: Results from March 20
Panther Valley’s Paige Goida threw a no-hitter in her team’s season opener on Friday.
Jim Thorpe posted wins in both baseball and softball, while Northwestern baseball team also picked up a victory.
SOFTBALL
Lincoln LA-Panther Vy.
Paige Goida pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Panther Valley to a 12-0 victory over Lincoln Leadership in its season opener.
Goida, who walked only one, received plenty of offensive support.
The Panthers led just 1-0 after two frames, but exploded for 11 runs in the third.
Danika Blazosky collected two hits (one a triple), two runs and an RBI, while Janessa Prudente added a triple, run and RBI. Brooklynn Mika also chipped in with a hit, run and RBI.

Jim Thorpe-Wilson
Jim Thorpe used a seven-run fourth inning to help roll past Wilson 15-4 in Colonial League action.
Ryah Confer had two hits and scored three runs for the Olympians, while winning pitcher Madison Schwartz aided her own cause with a pair of hits, two runs and two RBIs.
The winners also received two hits and a couple runs from Hannah Zacharias, and Isabella Sully contributed a hit and three RBIs.
Schwartz allowed five hits and struck out nine.

Lehighton-Notre Dame GP
Natalie Lilly and Rachel Fisher both hit home runs to help Notre Dame Green Pond post a 16-1 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.
Fisher drilled a two-run blast during a seven-run third inning, while Lilly’s two-run homer came in the fourth.
Madelina Moyer struck out eight in four innings to earn the pitching win.
The Indians received a hit and an RBI from Amber Yeakel, while Keza Moyer had a hit and a run.

The non-league contest game between Hamburg and Tamaqua was halted after four innings because of rain.
The Blue Raiders trailed by a 9-6 score. The game will be resumed at a later date.
BASEBALL
Northwestern-Moravian Ac.
Cannon Fitch had a good day at the plate to help Northwestern earn a 13-2 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy in its season opener.
Fitch went 2-for-3 with three runs and three stolen bases. The Tigers, who combined for seven runs in the second and third innings, also received a hit, three runs and five stolen bases from Lucian Sterling.
Tanner Fronina picked up the winning, allowing just one earned run and two hits over four innings. Fronina walked one a struck out eight.
Also contributing to the victory was Brady Krimmel, who had a had a hit, an RBI and three runs. Krimmel also picked up four of Northwestern’s 23 stolen bases.

Jim Thorpe-Wilson
A stellar pitching performance by Kaden Hess helped Jim Thorpe blank Colonial League foe Wilson 2-0 in its season opener.
Hess tossed six shutout innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out five. Cole Lazorick preserved the victory by fanning the side in the seventh.
The winning hurler also collected two hits — one a double — and an RBI at the plate, while Brody Schrantz added a single, double and run scored.
Noah Pastor chipped in with a hit and an RBI, and T Hoherchak contributed a hit and a run.

Clemente Cintron and Andrew Ruppe combined on a three-hit shutout to lead Notre Dame Green Pond to an 8-0 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.
The Indians managed just a double by Chase Llewellyn and singles from Cole Dietz and Braylon Hunsicker.
Cintron tossed the first five frames, allowing just one of the hits while striking out eight. Ruppe fanned two and gave up a pair of hits in his two innings of work.
Cintron also delivered offensively, collecting two hits and two RBIs.

Southern Lehigh handed Palmerton its first loss, edging the Blue Bombers 3-2 in Colonial League action.
Levi Johnson recorded a straight set win at No. 1 singles for Palmerton, while the doubles team of Hadlee Lake and Andrea Bettini also was victorious.
