Soup pickup

Pickup date for Effort UMC’s current soup sale, which ends today and offers chili and chicken corn chowder, is Sunday after each worship service.

Auxiliary meeting

The West End American Legion Auxiliary is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

On Saturday the Legion has a meat raffle drawing scheduled, as well as its Bunny Breakfast and egg hunt.

U.N. Lions day

Thursday is United Nations Lions Day in New York. That will bring Lions from around the world to the Big Apple to learn about how members can impact lives locally and worldwide.

QV homeschoolers

Thursday is a possible work day at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm for homeschoolers, and on Tuesday there may be a homeschool training.

Hands-on event

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville has scheduled a “Discover Jesus Day” event for first through fourth graders only from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Children can be dropped off at 8:45 a.m. and picked up at noon.

Among the activities, the participants will be able to: work with wood in Joseph’s carpenter shop; make bread and butter in Mary’s kitchen; try writing in Hebrew; visit the pottery shop to make something out of clay; and taste food that Jesus probably ate as a child.

Nature walk

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, has a nature walk on its schedule for Saturday at Eagles Nest Park in Slatington.

Auction sign-ups

Sign-ups for Effort UMC’s Mission Outreach Auction have been accepted since March 15, and donated items will be on display outside the church office. Donors need to place a value on their respective gifts.

All items need to be clean and in good condition. “Hot ticket” items include handmade items, themed baskets, gift certificates, homemade dinners, etc.

Special donations

St. Matthew’s EC Church, Kunkletown, is accepting special donations for its Easter Meal Bag Donation Drive in support of the West End Food Pantry’s Easter Meal Bag gifts to families served by the West End Food Pantry.

The monetary donation drive ends Sunday.

Each bag will include a canned ham, instant mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cake mix and frosting, with an uplifting message and special treat.

The church itself will bag those gifts on March 29.

Healing service

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will host a healing service on Sunday, with Sunday School beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Cemetery cleanup

The Gilbert Cemetery cleanup is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, according to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville. More information is forthcoming.

PVEN fundraiser

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will again partner with Red Robin for a Foodtastic Fundraiser. It is being held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Red Robin, 1792 N. Ninth St., Bartonsville.

Participate by showing the event flyer or by ordering online at redrobin.com or on the Red Robin mobile app. For online and app orders, add the fundraiser to the cart before checkout so the purchase counts for the fundraiser.

Soups sought

Effort UMC continues looking for soup donations for the Supplemental Food Resource Center this month. The center is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to noon March 28.

Egg hunt set

Cornerstone Community Church in Kunkletown is holding its annual egg hunt at the church from 3-5 p.m. March 28.

It is a free event with egg hunt, prizes, story walk, snacks and ice cream.

PVEN’S current needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s current needs are as follows: Food Pantry — cereal, peanut butter and jelly, canned chicken or tuna, pasta and pasta sauce, cat and dog food. Clothing Closet — deodorant, cleaning products, blankets/comforters, sheets and towels, Easter basket fillers. Diaper Pantry — baby formula and baby food, baby toiletries, bladder protection pads and adult-sized pull-ups.

Block shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is hosting a block shoot and meat raffle on March 29.

It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event.

The public is welcome at the event, which is held at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

Youth Trout Day

The statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day is set for March 28, while the statewide opening day of trout season is set for April 4.

The 2026 adult trout stocking schedule by county is available on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission website, www.pa.gov/agencies/fishandboat. Additional stocking information on waterways and meeting locations for volunteers is also available on the website.

Services set

• St. John’s Lutheran in Effort will hold a Palm Sunday service at 9:30 a.m. March 29 with Holy Communion. A Good Friday service with Service of the Word will be held at 3 p.m. April 3. The Easter service will be at 9:30 a.m. and include Holy Communion.

• Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville has announced the following special services for the Easter holidays: Maundy Thursday, April 2, 7 p.m. worship and Holy Communion; Good Friday, April 3, 7 p.m. worship service; and Easter Sunday worship, 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4, informal spoken service with Holy Communion; Sunday, April 5, 8 and 10:30 a.m., festival worship with Holy Communion. He is Risen!

Polk history

The Polk Township Historical Society will meet at 11 a.m. April 4 at the Polk Township Municipal Building in Kresgeville.

All citizens interested in local history are invited. Attendees are invited to bring an item for Show & Tell.

After the meeting, the group will go to the Lodge Hall for spring cleaning.

Competition set

Monroe County’s Habitat for Humanity has announced its “She Nailed It!” competition for May 3 at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort from noon to 4 p.m. It consists of teams of four women who wield the hammers.

Farmers market

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville has announced that a farmers market will be held on April 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. New vendors are welcome. For more information, email Brodheadsvillefarmersmarket@gmail.com. Featured will be local farmers and artisans.

Ross ‘Keystone’

The Ross Township Historical Society invites all to attend the dedication of the township’s “Keystone” on April 6 at approximately 6:30 p.m. immediately following the supervisors meeting at the township building, 250 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. The “Keystone,” an art piece designed and executed by Ross Township’s well-known artist Gary Embich, is a representation on wood of the township’s landmarks dating back to its founding in 1817. The “Keystone” was created in honor of our nation’s signing of the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago and as part of Monroe County’s yearlong celebrations of our American heritage.
