March 16, 2012 — Former Times News area Swimmers of the Year Allysa Vavra and Kristen Shickora both capture medals at the NCAA swimming championships. Vavra, a Panther Valley graduate swimming for Indiana University, turns in a time of 4:01.73 in the 400 individual medley to finish in fifth place. It’s Vavra’s second medal of the championships, having gained an eighth in the 200 IM the day before. Shickora, a member of the University of Georgia swim team, earns eighth in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 52.51.
