March 14, 2013 — Northwestern’s Trey Shackleton and Palmerton’s Sawyer Allen both earn medals at the annual PIAA Swimming And Diving Championships at Bucknell University. Shackleton, a sophomore, places third in the 500 freestyle. The Tiger entered the meet as the No. 3 seed in the event and holds that spot after posting a personal best time of 4:37.77. Allen, a senior participating in his fourth state but never having won a medal, takes eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.47. Tamaqua’s girls 400 freestyle relay team of Miranda Amey, Danielle DeCindio, Caroline Kanaskie and Joann Butkus places 16th.
