The Carbon County American Legion Inter-Post Association and the county commissioners have agreed to a joint effort to make the position of county director of Veterans Affairs a permanent position rather than a political job.
The association protested the manner in which the position was handled recently when the current Republican administration dismissed Elmer Davies of Lansford and named Earl Henning of Palmerton to the post.
Meeting with the commissioners to discuss the change, which will be made when a formal resolution is drawn up for the commissioners’ approval, were James Nothstein of Lehighton, Edward Rimsky of Jim Thorpe and William Mansberry of Summit Hill.
