TOPS meeting
A group for Take off Pounds Sensibly meets at Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran in Kresgeville every Wednesday, including at 5:30 p.m. today. The Wednesday morning group meets at 10 a.m.

Monthly exhibit
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting a “Nature in Fabrics” exhibit in the art gallery.
The work is by Ellen Davis and showcases themes of nature in quilt block forms.
The exhibit will run in the Kettle Creek Art Gallery for the month of March. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Davis is donating proceeds from her March art show to the Kettle Creek Environmental Center.

Lenten series, services
• Our Lady Queen of Peace in Brodheadsville continues its Lenten Series with the Rev. Robert Simon in McCawley Hall tonight at 6 p.m., with dinner. On Wednesday mornings, the series is held at 10 a.m., with coffee.
• Effort UMC is hosting its weekly Wednesday Lenten services at 7:15 p.m. through March 25.
Sons of Legion
The Sons of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the Legion Hall in Gilbert.
Soup sale set
Effort UMC has announced its March soup sale. Chili and chicken corn chowder are offered.
Orders due by March 18.
Pickup is March 22 after each worship service.
Ladies Auxiliary
Effort’s St. John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary meeting will be held at noon Monday.
All women of St. John’s are welcome.
The group is continuing to collect non-perishables for Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network and Valor.
In addition, the group is collecting ShopRite and Weis grocery receipts and soda can tabs.
Fish dinner
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville is holding its next fish dinner, fried or baked, from 5-7 p.m. Friday in McCawley Hall.
QV workshop
A “Cabin Fever Workshop” is being held at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hoagies ahead
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is hosting another hoagie sale. Orders and money are due on Sunday.

Daylight saving time begins on Sunday, so remember to “spring forward.”

Alternating events
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, reminds all that on the first and third Sunday of the month Christian Education follows the 9 a.m. worship service, beginning at 10:15 a.m.
On the second and fourth Sunday, a time of fellowship follows the service.
This month with five Sundays, the schedule for March 29 is the 9 a.m. worship service with a “Singspiration” thereafter.
Historical societies
The West End Historical Societies will meet at the Western Pocono Community Library’s public meeting room at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Discussed will be the planning for the America 250th celebration that will be held July 2-4 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Effort Women
The Effort Women’s Group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC in Wesley Hall.
Sweet event
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its Community Maple Sugaring Days are Saturday and March 14.
Environmental educators will share the history of pure maple syrup, how it is made and give attendees a taste of maple syrup on pancakes. There will also be 90-minute tours of the sugarbush.
Preregistration is required by calling 570-629-3061. Participants may choose a time from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their 90-minute tour.
There is a cost. Attendees are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather and trail walking.
The event is held at the Meesing Outdoor Site, 1254 Marshalls Creek Road, East Stroudsburg.

Supper, dinner
• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville is hosting its next Community Sunday Supper at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
• West End Mission dinners are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The next dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. March 12. Anyone who would like to sponsor a dinner can contact the office at Our Lady Queen of Peace at 610-681-6137.
OTOH meeting
The next meeting of Operation: Touch of Home will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.
Toner cartridges
Toner cartridges are being accepted at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran in Kresgeville for recycling. That brings in some credit, which can be used to purchase paper and other supplies for the church.
There is a box in the lobby near the closet for the cartridges.
Super soup event
Effort UMC collected 193 canned goods/nonperishable items and $296.94 for the church’s Supplemental Food Resource Center as a result of participating in Souper Sunday recently.
Irish meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville is holding a St. Patrick’s Dinner at 6 p.m. March 14 in McCawley Hall. Advanced tickets only. It will include bagpipes and raffles. Proceeds will benefit the Capital Fund.
Lasagna dinner
Effort UMC is hosting a takeout lasagna dinner on March 15. The church is now accepting orders for single serving meals. Each meal will include lasagna, salad, garlic bread and a dessert.
The meals will be precooked but refrigerated for pickup.

Hands-on time
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville has scheduled a “Discover Jesus Day Event” for first through fourth graders only from 9 a.m. to noon March 21.
Children can be dropped off at 8:45 a.m. and picked up at noon.

Among the activities, the participants will be able to: work with wood in Joseph’s carpenter shop; make bread and butter in Mary’s kitchen; try writing in Hebrew; visit the pottery shop to make something out of clay; and taste food that Jesus probably ate as a child.
Senior spelling bee
Monroe County Senior Spelling Bee is being held from 1-3 p.m. April 22 at the Hughes Library, 1002 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg, as presented by the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging.
Those 55 and older are being sought to participate.

The Gilbert Cemetery cleanup is scheduled for March 25, according to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville. More information will be available closer to the date.
