Monroe Co. Commissioners award homeless funds

The Monroe County Commissioners approved several grants for organizations that help the homeless.

Commissioner Sharon Laverdure said there have been some terribly cold nights this winter and the organizations worked together to help others.

“I’d just like to compliment everyone in the county that works together,” she said.

Laverdure said that they managed the timing of openings and closings and made “sure that we have places for folks to go to.”

They’re collaborative work helped to “protect our residents here, those that don’t have places to go. Thank you,” she said.

The grant approved by the commissioners is the Emergency Solution Grant 2025-2027. The total of the grants was $232,500 ($223,781.25 to agencies and $8,718.75 to administration) and is allocated for the period of Dec. 18, 2025 to June 30, 2027. The sub-recipients, allocations and uses include:

• Emergency shelter providers RHD-Street 2 Feet, $42,093.25; and Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church, $29,091.56, for operations and essential services;

• Emergency shelter providers Family Promise, $24,615.94; and Safe Monroe, $6,713.44, for operations;

• For rapid rehousing services, Pocono Area Transitional Housing, $51,469.69, and Pike County Human Services, $19,021.40, for services, financial and rental assistance;

• For street outreach services, RHD- Street 2 Feet, $31,754.56, for operations and essential services, and;

• For homeless prevention, Pike County Human Services, $19,021.41, for services, financial and rental assistance.
