Guidance counselor, five longtime teachers retiring from Panther Vy.

The Panther Valley School District will see five longtime teachers and a guidance counselor retire at the end of this school year.

Five of the soon-to-be retirees are at the district’s intermediate school, leaving a gap the Panther Valley School Board acknowledged Wednesday in accepting the resignations.

Retiring from the intermediate school are Joseph Ogozalek, Cori Gates, Jacqui Morgans, Cheryl Romanchik, all teachers, and Mary Ellen Greco, guidance counselor.

The board also accepted the resignation of retiring junior-senior high school teacher, Chrisanne Powell.

Superintendent Dave McAndrew said that the district will post all the positions in April.

McAndrew, in his superintendent’s report, said that he will be attending a curriculum leadership summit in Harrisburg on Monday, and staff participated in a Zoom meeting on the sixth-eighth grade literature program.

The district will be starting its second rotation of after-school clubs, he said, and also noted that the school’s food pantry was held Wednesday night.

The board approved a consulting services agreement with Butler, Agnew and Associates related to the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

McAndrew said the firm will provide support with audit preparation as the district transitions from one business manager to another in the last fiscal year, McAndrew said.

“In addition, Greg (Gauronsky, business manager,) has done an excellent job managing the 2025-2026 budget and has helped to maintain continuity and strong financial oversight during the period of change,” he said.

The board, in other action, approved:

• Hiring Sherry Bukics as a junior-senior art teacher at a salary of $47,686 per the union contract.
