Palmerton chooses former members for seats

The Palmerton Area School Board approved resignations and filled two board vacancies with former members Tuesday evening.

The board approved the resignation of Alyson Krawchuk-Boschen as school director, effective Feb. 3.

The board also approved her resignation as representative to the Carbon Career & Technical Institute’s Joint Operating Committee.

Palmerton Area Superintendent Dr. Angela Friebolin thanked Krawchuk-Boschen for her time on the school board. Krawchuk-Boschen was not at the meeting.

“We always give a thank you when someone gives of their time for public service, so we thank her very much,” Friebolin said.

The board appointed Kristen Schaible as school director to conclude the term left by Alyson Krawchuk-Boschen’s resignation.

The board appointed Robert Moyzan as school director to conclude the term left by Magin Gursky’s resignation.

Gursky resigned from the board Jan 18.

“A formal welcome back to both of you,” school board President Sherry Haas said, leading a round of applause from the rest of the school board. Both of the new directors are returning, having served with the board in the past.

The board also approved Erin Snyder’s resignation as alternate representative to CCTI’s Joint Operating Committee effective Tuesday and appointed her as the main representative to CCTI to conclude the remainder of the three-year term through December 2027.

Stacey Connell will serve as the alternate representative to CCTI for the remainder of the one-year term through December.

Schaible took a few minutes to address the school board regarding her decision to rejoin the board.

“There’s been a troubling level of prevarication circling in both my regard to my decision to return to this board, and about speculation upon which ‘side’ I would take upon my return. Let me be about as clear as I can be. I am going to take the side that I have always taken, which is my own.”

Schaible continued, “I don’t need to prove anyone right or wrong, and your opinion is just that. My truth and my value and why I returned to this board is just that: mine. I don’t need anyone’s approval, and your opinion is still yours, and yet, this board will still move forward.”

She said she will not be pressured into voting for either side.

“I will vote with the integrity and ethics that I have within me and the research that I do, and I will vote with my principles.”
