The Lehighton girls and Northwestern boys basketball teams both earned top seeds in the upcoming District 11 playoffs.

The Indians and Tigers each gained Colonial League championships on Friday. They are two of 12 Times News area teams that will be competing in the D-11 postseason.

The playoffs officially begin on Tuesday with three first-round games, one of them involving the Northern Lehigh girls at home against Lehigh Valley Academy.

Marian and Weatherly, along with Lehighton and Northwestern, have both their boys and girls team participating.

Besides the Northern Lehigh girls, other area teams that have qualified include the Jim Thorpe boys, and the Palmerton and Tamaqua girls.

The championship games are scheduled for Feb. 27 and 28.

Along with district honors on the line, the playoffs will also decide which teams advance to compete in the state tournament.
