Retirements at larger post offices around the nation are usually fairly common, unspecial events, but there was something definitely uncommon about retirements this week at the New Ringgold Post Office.
The entire staff — Postmaster Charles F. Mase, his wife Mamie, who was senior clerk, and Mrs. Verna Zehner, clerk, all retired, thus ending a combined 77 years of service to the community.
Mase was a veteran of 32 years of service, his wife, 30 years, and Mrs. Zehner, 15 years.
William L. Long, postmaster at Landingville, and his clerk, Mrs. Fern Steigerwalt, will be the acting postmaster and clerk there, respectively, until the vacancies are filled. Joanne Wagner of the Landingville office will work in the New Ringgold office on Saturdays.
