Man charged with stabbing sister’s boyfriend in Tamaqua

A Gilberton man is in jail after reportedly stabbing a man repeatedly in a Tamaqua home Tuesday.

Robert “Junior” Jimenez-Nieves, 42, arraigned by District Judge Christian Lengel on charges of aggravated assault, two felony counts; reckless endangerment, simple assault and possession of instruments of crime,

He was committed to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville in lieu of $150,000 bail.

According to arrest papers, Tamaqua police were dispatched to 221 Pine St. for a reported stabbing at 5:44 p.m.

A woman met officers, who explained that her brother stabbed her boyfriend three times with a 7-inch kitchen knife inside the home, court papers said.

Her boyfriend was stabbed twice in the back and cut once in the front of the left leg, she told police.

Jimenez then fled the house and took off in a blue Ram pickup with gray stripes, and officers put out an alert to other agencies to stop and hold the vehicle.

West Penn police stopped a vehicle matching the description minutes later on West Penn Pike, and took the driver, Jimenez Nieves, into custody. He was taken to the Tamaqua Police Station.

Officers spoke to the victim at St. Luke’s Miners Campus, and he identified Jimenez Nieves as the man who stabbed him.

Officers observed two puncture wounds on his back, one near his spine. Medical staff also informed him that he had a 4 to 4 1/2-inch cut on the outside of his left knee.

The victim was then flown to a regional trauma center for further treatment. Chief Michael Hobbs did not have a condition on the victim Wednesday morning, but believed he would recover from his injuries.
