Resident wants ski traffic control
A Lower Towamensing Township resident has voiced concerns about traffic exiting Blue Mountain Resort and the danger that could potentially result from it.
Resident Steve Kuhns told the board of supervisors last week that he believes the ski resort should have someone at the lower parking lot when the resort closes to assist traffic as its leaving.
“There’s got to be somebody there to divert traffic,” Kuhns said. “They just go right out, they don’t stop.”
Kuhns added that there’s no crosswalks down there.
“They don’t even look,” he said. “Kids just run out (front) of traffic.”
Supervisor Michael Takerer said he thought that used to be accounted for.
“I thought they had cones there and manned that,” Takerer said. “I recall they had cones and blinking lights.”
Not to be dismayed, Kuhns reiterated his concerns.
“Something has to be done,” he said. “Somebody’s going to get killed there.”
Kuhns cited the Carbon County Fairgrounds as an example.
“They have someone there,” Kuhns said with regard to when the Carbon County Fair is held at the Fairgrounds on Little Gap Road. “That road is heavily traveled.”
Takerer then suggested to send a letter to Blue Mountain Resort asking them to strengthen their manpower and signage.
Kuhns added, “I’m just concerned with the safety.”
