Driver injured in Towamensing crash

Richard C. Gray, 85, of Kunkletown, was injured after a two-vehicle crash at 12:39 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the intersection of Interchange and Forest Inn roads in Towamensing Township, police said.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said that Gray was transported by personnel from the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

They said the crash occurred as Gray was driving a 2021 Subaru Ascent westbound on Interchange Road and was stopped at the intersection with Forest Inn Road. The Ascent was hit from behind by a 2024 Grande West Transportation International truck driven by Brian V. Ruch, 62, of Lehighton.

Police said both vehicles had minor damage, but the Ascent was towed from the scene because Gray was taken to the hospital.

Ruch was cited for following too closely, according to police.
