As the big winter event of January 2026 fades into distant memory, the dig out continues.
Mayor Denise A. Leibensperger declared a state of emergency and Lansford is still cleaning up.
With limited and congested parking in various areas of the community, snow removal was nearly impossible.
Borough Officials, Joe Butrie and Joe Gentis spent hours accessing and formulating a plan of action. The dig out began on West Berstch and moved forward from there. Significant progress has been made and cleanup is still underway.
Sgt. Shawn Nunemacher, officer in charge, said “On behalf of the Borough, I want to thank our citizens for their incredible support following the recent heavy snowfall. With 90% compliance regarding snow removal efforts, your cooperation made a difficult job much easier.
“We also owe a debt of gratitude to our borough crew, who worked around the clock to keep our roads open. Lastly, I am immensely proud of the Lansford Police Department. Our officers went above and beyond the call of duty, stepping up to help neighbors who were stuck or snowed in. Thank you all for pulling together.” Nunemacher said.
He thanked the officers, council members, and the residents.
“Acknowledgment to the dedicated ontractors Lenny Kovatch, Lansford Borough Fire Department, Carbon County Emergency Services, and, most importantly, the entire community for their cooperation in moving vehicles and their understanding during this challenging time.”
