Persons attending the open house program this weekend at SS. Peter and Paul School, Lehighton, as part of Catholic Schools Week, will help the parish to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the school.

Principal Sherry Sernak said a display at the school will give a snippet of the school’s rich history.

Allentown Diocese records indicate SS. Peter and Paul Church was formed in 1885 and the school opened the following year. While the church building served as the school initially, in 1906 the cornerstone was laid for a new church and the old church was remodeled into a full-time parochial school.

A new school was then eventually built, with classes held there for the first time on Feb. 9, 1925.
