Weatherly approves road paving program

Weatherly Borough Council approved the 2026 Road Paving Program, which looks to pave North Street this year.

Council will advertise for bids to pave North Street from Louisa Street to Allen Avenue with the project paid for with state Liquid Fuels funds. The borough paved Second Street last year.

Councilman Norman Richie asked about previous discussions on continuing work started last year, but the borough employees felt North Street needed work instead.

In other business, council:

• Appointed Tom Breznitsky as emergency management coordinator, a role that he had been filling since Police Chief Brian Markovchick retired.

• Adopted a resolution for a tax anticipation loan in the amount of $125,000.

• Approved changes to an ordinance regulating snow ban parking restrictions on Wilbur Street and a borough parking lot.

• Tabled discussion and action the borough’s proposed zoning fee schedule.

• Tabled discussion and action on Weatherly’s subdivision and land development fee schedule.

• Deleted a clause in the employee policy regarding nepotism.

• Ratified the declaration of a snow emergency and also terminated the snow emergency.

• Acknowledged the public works department prompted by praise from Police Chief Michael Bogart and Borough Manager Tracy Grover. Bogart said the workers don’t get enough credit, and Grover agreed that it has been a “torturous” month for them and they have “gone above and beyond.”
