The Pennsylvania Library Association has honored Sen. James J. Rhoades of Mahanoy City as its Elected Official of the Year for 2006.

The presentation of the award was held in conjunction with a regional gathering of librarians at the Pottsville Free Public Library, hosted by district library director Nancy Smink.

The award recognizes the senator’s hard work and commitment to improved library services, not just for the constituents in his district, but for all Pennsylvanians, according to Janice Trapp, association president and director of the Williamsport library.

“He (Rhoades) is a longtime advocate for better library services and an influential voice in supporting the value of libraries, and we are pleased to recognize him,” she said.
